Nvidia GeForce GTX 280

Nvidia GeForce GTX 280 features and specifications

Introduction of NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280

A little over an entire year in 2008, a year and a half ago, the GeForce 8800 GTX was recognized as Nvidia’s strongest graphic processing unit (GPU). Naturally, we also had an 8800 Ultra, which was slightly higher speed. However, it wasn’t a breakthrough and was launched within six months of the initial 8800, which coincided with the launch of the R600.

The card only offered an improvement of a tiny amount over the prior GTX and was still lagging behind that of the Ultra version. The introduction of the 9800GTX two years earlier aroused hopes for major performance improvements. Nvida GTX280 required more than a handful more megahertz or the ability to connect 2 GPUs on the same card for customers to be content with the items they bought at the store.

Nvidia has considered our suggestions in developing the GTX 280, the first graphics processing unit with an extensive overhaul of the G8X architecture. The “GTX” prefix is the first time that it’s been used to describe a completely different architecture, which is completely distinct from the standard.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280

NVIDIA launched its Ge Force GTX280, the first-ever desktop graphics processing device, in June 2008. It was the first device that was of this kind. It’s made using a 65nm process, and the card’s architecture is described as a part of it being the 2nd Generation Unified Shader. The central processor operates at 1.296 gigahertz (GHz), while the GPU works at 602 megahertz (MHz).

Furthermore, it comes with 32 registers for operand processing (ROPs), 80 texture units, and 242 CUDA cores. The GeForce GTX 280 has an internal memory capacity of one gigabyte (GB) of GDDR3 memory. Memory operating at 1.107 gigahertz and connected to the 512-bit bus can offer a maximum of 141.7 gigabytes of data per second.

To function correctly, the graphics card must use both the PCI Express 2.0 expansion slots on the motherboard. The 3D graphics and gaming performance provided by the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280 can be enhanced by combining it with three other cards outfitted by SLI technology.
